The soft dialer often called the software dialer, because of less use of the hardware .Use of the hardware component in the soft dialer is very less. Software based dialers are either Open source or are Premise Based. Premised based is the best option because in Open source all your data is stored in a server outside your premises, which can get stolen, hacked or cracked and they can’t provide support. There are many other disadvantages of open source dialer
Software only solutions use ISDN messaging, or a CTI link to provide call progress analysis for calls made. Software only dialers are often cheaper because they do not require expensive telephony components, but in some cases can offer less functionality than more traditional hard predictive dialer solutions, particularly when it comes to detecting answering machines (AMD). Typically a software dialer is connected to an existing PBX system via the PBX CTI link. In many cases a specialized ‘call classification’ card is placed into the PBX to perform call progress analysis, and answering machine detection.
Pros:
Low cost, less components in overall solution.
Flexible architecture works well in multi-site and distributed environments.
Cons:
Relies on the AMD and call progress detection capabilities of the underlying PBX/switch platform.
Many PBX’s will not work with a soft dialer configuration.
Reliance on the CTI link of PBX means that should the PBX be upgraded or changed, the predictive dialer will typically also require upgrading/reinstallation to ensure that it is properly certified for the appropriate CTI link version.
